Herstory: Our girlStory

ODgoL is dedicated to supporting our community and leaving behind a legacy that will enrich future girls of Leather nationwide. For that reason we are keeping a record of the events our girls have represented at and participated in to capture our History.  Thank you to all of our girls for your dedication and service!

August 2017:

 

  • The idea of a Hampton Roads chapter of girls of leather was envisioned by callie girl, who then gathered a group of self identifying Leather girls who lived by the same Leather values she did.

September 2017:

 

  • The Old Dominion girls of Leather was founded by callie girl, slave lizzie, girl alayna, girl jaded, slave megan, slave kendra, and slave laura.

 

  • Our very own callie girl won Atlantic States Community Bootblack 2018!

October 2017:

 

  • The Old Dominion girls of Leather participated in Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Norfolk, VA. Our efforts as a group raised over $300 in donations!

  • slave megan, callie girl, and girl jaded attended and volunteered and represented the Old Dominion girls of Leather at Leather History Preservation Weekend in North Carolina. 

November 2017:

  • The Old Dominion girls of Leather joined several local Leather clubs in collecting non perishable items for the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia. 

  • slave megan, girl jaded, and girl alayna collected food to donate to the LGBT Center so that they could provide meals to families. Two Thanksgiving dinners  (including turkeys) were collected.

  • The Club put together four full care packages for deployed military troops through the Treats for Our Troops organization in Alexandria, VA.

December 2017:

  • The Old Dominion girls of Leather adopted a family of five at the Avalon Center for Women and Children in Williamsburg.

  • By raising money through Jell-O shot sales, gift wrapping at Barnes and Nobles, and donations, the club was able to provide the family with brand new coats, snow boots, and toys. 

  • The first annual purse drive was headed by prospect, girl branna. We were able to fill ten gently used purses with toiletries and other goodies to provide to homeless women in the Hampton Roads area.

March 2018:

  • The Old Dominion girls of Leather attended the Leather Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA with representatives of other Hampton Roads Leather clubs.

April 2018:

  • slave Megan was named Assistant Director of the Johnson-Carter Library Hampton Roads Annex. 

  • The Old Dominion girls of Leather, along with members of other Leather clubs participated in the Walk A Mile charity walk, benefiting The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors in Newport News, VA.

  • Held community educational/panel discussion on Sexual Assault.

June 2018:

  • Inaugural pledge Class Announced.

July 2018:

  • ODgoL hosted its first annual blood drive with the Red Cross and the Blood is Blood organization; raising awareness of the ban on gay blood. 

November 2018:

  • Pledge girl branna patched into Old Dominion girls of Leather as a full member.

December 2018:

  • 2nd Annual Purse Drive

April 2019:

  • Walked in The Center for Sexual Assault's Walk A Mile in Their Shoes event
